Back to Work: How to Choose the Right Breast Pump.

You just had your baby and your maternity leave is over but you've made up your mind to keep breastfeeding your baby. How do you plan to  achieve that? "By getting a breast pump and extracting milk at every opportunity" you say.

Not a bad idea at all. And for those thinking "what's all the fuss? Just go for baby formula" it's important to know that human milk is still the best nutrient source for babies for the first six months (exclusively)and in addition to solid food till baby is one year old.

A breast pump basically consists of three parts:

1) the breast shield: a cone shaped cup (can look like a funnel) that fits over the nipple and surrounding area.
2)the pump: creates the vacuum that expresses the milk.
3)the milk container: collects the milk.

There are different types of pumps out there; manual, battery powered and electric but there are still questions you would have to answer in order to get the right pump.

How to Choose the Right Breast Pump for you.

1)How often do you plan to use the pump? Exclusively or Will you still be breastfeeding?
2)Where will you be using the pump? At home, work or when travelling?
If you are going to be using the pump at work then you may need an electric double pump to pump the two breasts at the same time.
3) Your budget. How much are you willing to spend on a breast pump? You may even
decide to have more than one type.
4) How easy will it be for you to clean?

Absolutely no rocket science about it, get the pump that suits what you want to achieve.
