WHO Recommends That E-cigarettes Be Banned

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended that e-cigarettes
be banned indoors, which they say emit toxic chemicals that could be
harmful to bystanders.

'Many smokers use e-cigarettes as a way to quit, as they deliver the
nicotine hit but without the carcinogens associated with breathing in
smoke. There are no laws currently banning their use inside.

But yesterday a report by the WHO questioned the safety of
e-cigarettes, officially known as electronic nicotine delivery systems
(ENDS).

"The fact that ENDS exhaled aerosol contains on average lower levels
of toxicants than the emissions from combusted tobacco does not mean
that these levels are acceptable to involuntarily exposed bystanders,"
said the report.

Although anecdotal reports indicate that an undetermined proportion of
ENDS users have quit smoking using these products, their efficacy has
not been systematically evaluated yet," the report added.'

Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), of which electronic
cigarettes are the most common prototype, are devices that do not burn
or use tobacco leaves but instead vaporise a solution the user then
inhales. The main constituents of the solution, in addition to
nicotine when nicotine is present, are propylene glycol, with or
without glycerol and flavouring agents. ENDS solutions and emissions
contain other chemicals, some of them considered to be toxicants.

Although some e-cigarettes look like tobacco products (e.g.
cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipes, hookahs, or shishas), they may
be produced in the form of everyday items such as pens, USB memory
sticks or larger cylindrical or rectangular devices.

Previous studies have shown that inhaling nicotine, even without
tobacco smoke, may contribute to heart disease.

I recommend staying off nicotine totally and completely. "Hard" or
"Soft" copy makes no difference!
